Jens Klingelhöfer already worked as a media designer for books at the beginning of his career and returned to the book industry with the founding of Bookwire. Before that, he worked in the music industry for over ten years and was involved in numerous successful music projects as managing director of the music marketing and management company MFM Entertainment. As an entrepreneur and marketing expert for the creative industry, he has been involved in the marketing and distribution of digital content for 15 years and has a lot of experience in developing forward-looking business models.

Kristen McLean is the Executive Director of Business Development at The NPD Group, a global research and data company, where she sits within the Books | Entertainment practice. Kristen is responsible for developing new client relationships for existing products, as well as the creation of new initiatives that expand NPD's value to its publishing and entertainment clients.

While the book Industry is a mature market with a more than 600 year-old primary technology, the market still reacts in interesting ways when new technologies, behaviors and global events arise. In this session, Circana BookScan's Kristen McLean will walk us through the latest in format shifts and consumer beahviors in the U.S. market, including shifts in share among formats, the rise in influence of younger consumers, what areas of content have been driving the market for the last couple of years, and what we can expect moving forward.

Brian O’Leary has served as excutive director of the Book Industry Study Group since 2016. Prior to joining BISG, he worked as a consultant to book, magazine, and association publishers for 18 years. He started his consulting practice after a 15-year career in book (Hammond Inc.) and magazine (Time Inc.) publishing.

Brian O Leary, BISG: Synchronizing Workflows: Overcoming Publishing Challenges
Workflows are made up of three inter-related considerations: process (how work gets done); technology (tools used to do the work); and organizational structure (how people interact with one another). A change in one affects the other two, in ways that help or hinder an effort to synchronize workflows. Since 2019, BISG has studied workflow improvement and shared best practices. This talk will describe what has been learned.

Thad McIlroy is an electronic publishing analyst and author, and president of The Future of Publishing, based in San Francisco and Vancouver, BC. A well-established expert in the technology and marketing issues surrounding electronic publishing and the Internet, he has authored a dozen books and over 300 articles on these topics. McIlroy served for five years as Program Director for Seybold Seminars, the publishing industry’s premier technology conference.
He is a founding partner in Publishing Technology Partners, a new consultancy focused on a broad range of strategic technology issues in publishing. The other partners are Bill Kasdorf, Bill Rosenblatt and Bill Trippe. In 2006 he launched www.thefutureofpublishing.com, the most comprehensive source of information on the present and predicted outcomes of all sectors of the publishing industry. Greg has served as treasurer and was on the Board of Directors for the Center for Fiction in New York City. He earned his Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
